Lesmurdie Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a dynamic and passionate Head of Learning Area (HOLA) in science who is responsive to change and caters to the learning styles of twenty first century students.
As HOLA Science, you will become part of our committed Leadership Team and work collaboratively with staff, students, and the wider school community to provide educational leadership through developing and promoting the school’s vision and strategic directions. You will ideally be an outstanding educator and be willing to take on significant levels of accountability. The successful applicant should possess excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to lead and manage a vibrant Science team to provide students with the highest quality curriculum delivery and programs. You will ideally be innovative, knowledgeable and possess thorough understandings of instructional and curriculum leadership whilst keeping abreast of the latest developments pertaining to the Science Learning Area. You should be reflective in assessing the effectiveness of your teaching practice and able to cultivate a safe and accountable learning environment, underpinning our core values, Curiosity, Aspiration, Respect and Environment.
Lesmurdie SHS offers a DoE endorsed Specialist Enrichment and Acceleration Program in Mathematics and Science (LEAP). You will be required to work alongside the LEAP coordinator to plan for effective delivery and further development of this program. Proven demonstration of leadership in education tailored to gifted students in addition to the development of community partnerships that support the enrichment opportunities for students within the program is highly desirable.
Applicants should have an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Science Curriculum and the ability to teach across Year 7 to Year 12. The successful applicant would promote active learning and provide engaging learning activities which facilitate students at all levels achieving their potential. We are looking for a dynamic, adaptable and collaborative individual who is committed to working effectively as part of a team. Applicants will ideally be improvement focused, participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities and continually reflect on their own teaching and leadership practice to enhance student engagement and achievement outcomes.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
1. Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
2. High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
3. Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
4. Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
