Title: Senior Designer (Rail, 3D & BIM)

Our KBR Melbourne team is looking for a Senior Designer (Rail, 3D & BIM) to work as a key member of the rail team, supporting project delivery in line with ISO 19650 and project-specific Digital Engineering Execution Plans. Reporting into the Civil Technical Lead, the role combines hands-on CAD, 3D and BIM modelling with coding, scripting and software development to improve efficiency and reduce manual data handling. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement and continuously improve company-developed digital engineering tools, processes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate, select and apply standard drafting, 3D and BIM techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgement to adapt and modify designs as required.
* Deliver high-quality CAD, 3D and BIM design outputs using MicroStation in accordance with project, company and client standards.
* Support the application of Digital Engineering Execution Plans at a discipline level through CAD, modelling and software development.
* Apply coding and scripting skills to automate workflows and support parametric design development.
* Contribute to the development, implementation and ongoing improvement of company-developed digital engineering software and tools.
* Liaise with clients, statutory authorities and other consultants, including project management teams.
* Prepare and maintain procedures, documentation and reports to support consistent digital engineering delivery within the rail team.
* Work collaboratively and harmoniously with team members, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a team-focused mindset.
* Take ownership of assigned tasks and outcomes, showing initiative, sound judgement and effective planning and organisation.
* Actively follow health, safety and environmental requirements and identify unsafe practices when they arise.
Skills & Experience Required
* Certification in Engineering Drafting or a higher relevant qualification.
* Considerable experience in rail engineering, supported by broader civil infrastructure experience.
* Strong capability in CAD, 3D and BIM modelling, with demonstrated experience delivering complex design outputs.
* Proficiency in MicroStation and associated digital engineering tools.
* Experience with coding and scripting for workflow automation and parametric design development.
* Solid understanding of digital engineering standards, including ISO 19650 principles.
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
* Proven ability to plan, prioritise and manage work effectively to meet project deadlines.
* A collaborative, customer-focused approach with the confidence to contribute as both a team member and technical contributor.
