Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Sustainability Specialist to join our team. This role will provide structured, risk-based environmental support across refinery and port operations.

This is an ideal opportunity for a professional with 3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance within mining, refining, or other heavy industry operations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide clear, practical environmental advice to operational teams, ensuring compliance with environmental authority obligations and ISO 14001:2018 environmental management system standards.
* Lead or contribute to investigations into environmental incidents, spills, and exceedances, applying root cause analysis and preparing defensible reports for senior management and regulators.
* Coordinate and mentor technicians delivering groundwater, surface water, air quality and noise monitoring programs, ensuring data integrity and timely reporting.
* Support project planning, shutdowns, and infrastructure upgrades with structured risk assessments and control recommendations.
* Facilitate internal and external audits, maintain compliance registers, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
* Deliver toolbox talks, site walkdowns, and training sessions to embed environmental awareness across all workgroups.
* Engage with regulators and external stakeholders as required, representing the company in a professional, solution-focused manner.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

* Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related discipline.
* Strong working knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation and regulatory reporting obligations.
* Proven track record leading or supporting structured incident investigations and risk management programs.
* Proficient in environmental data management systems (MonitorPro or similar), with strong analytical skills.
* Effective communicator, confident in liaising with site teams, contractors, and regulators.
* Current manual driver's license (boat license desirable).

Benefits:

* Townsville-based role: Work in a close-knit community with access to beautiful beaches, tropical gardens, and the Great Barrier Reef.
* No FIFO fatigue: Experience the complexity and challenge of a major hazard facility without fly-in/fly-out travel or remote camp living.
* Competitive remuneration aligned to your skills and experience.
* Opportunities for career development and growth within the organization.
