Native Title Law Specialist
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Native Title Legal Officer to deliver expert legal services in native title law, mining, land and sea tenure, and related fields. This role involves providing high-quality legal services and advice across various areas of law, including litigation, negotiation, stakeholder engagement, legal research, and policy development.
This is a unique opportunity for a capable solicitor who is passionate about working in partnership with First Nations communities and supporting self-determination.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide accurate, timely legal advice and representation.
* Assist with the preparation, management and conduct of native title claims, agreements and related applications.
* Draft legal documents including pleadings, submissions, and briefs to counsel.
* Represent clients before courts and tribunals as required.
* Build strong, respectful relationships with clients, stakeholders and external consultants.
* Support native title holders to manage their rights and interests effectively.
* Contribute to governance, policy development, and risk management activities.
About You:
* Admitted or eligible for admission as a solicitor in Queensland.
* 2 years + PAE - Demonstrated experience in native title, property, administrative law, or litigation.
* Strong technical skills in legal drafting, advocacy and negotiation.
* A commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* High-level communication, collaboration and project management skills.
* Ability to travel for work as required, including to regional and remote areas.
