Overview
We're looking for a passionate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team and help drive innovation in laboratory automation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting‐edge solutions that support the medical industry and improve lives around the world.
What you'll do
- Lead the design and development of high‐quality machinery solutions, including concept design, detailed CAD models using PTC Creo, 2D manufacturing drawings, prototype builds, testing, validation, and transfer to manufacturing.
- Collaborate with cross‐functional teams, customers, and suppliers to drive new product development and support the existing product range.
- Create and maintain accurate technical documentation to support design, manufacturing, and compliance requirements.
- Prototype and test mechanical designs to ensure performance, reliability, and adherence to industry standards.
- Support manufacturing and assembly with hands‐on technical guidance and resolve design‐related issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and foster growth and innovation within the team.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, reduce costs, and streamline processes.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and industry trends to inform design decisions and maintain a competitive edge.
What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mechanical, Medical, Mechatronics), Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
- Seven years of product design engineering experience, with hands‐on expertise in developing automation products featuring electro‐mechanical components such as motors, gears, pulleys, and sensors—ideally within machinery, small appliances, or materials handling industries.
- Strong capability in detailed part/component design, including tolerance stack‐ups and custom part development (not just catalogue selection).
- Creative problem‐solving skills and out‐of‐the‐box thinking to develop innovative solutions.
- Proficiency in developing 2D manufacturing drawings using PTC Creo and knowledge of GD&T.
- Solid understanding of materials and manufacturing techniques and how they influence design decisions.
- Proven experience in recent product development from conceptual design through to production release.
- A proactive approach to mentoring and supporting junior engineers, contributing to a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to share ideas, solve problems, and build productive relationships.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality, safety, and compliance in all aspects of your work.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage priorities, and consistently deliver results within agreed timeframes.
- A passion for innovation and staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends.
