Are you a skilled aquaculture professional ready to shape the next generation of hatchery excellence?
We are looking for aAquaculture Hatchery Specialistto provide expert technical knowledge andmentorshipwithin our state-of-the-art facilities. This is a pivotal role assisting with experimental design and implementation of Shellfish research projects, as well as supporting our commercial breeding operations.
What you'll do
Apply your expertise in larval rearing in this senior technical position
Coordinate and help lead research, assisting with laboratory experiments, data collection, and collating results
Day-to-day management of shellfish species and assisting with day-to-day husbandry of other aquatic animals as required.
Lead the on-going development of shellfish larval rearing techniques
Training of technicians and students
Supervising of some daily hatchery activities.
Flexibility to work weekends and/or out-of-hours callouts to ensure equipment and system maintenance would be helpful.
What you'll bring
Minimum of a Bachelors in Aquaculture, Biological science, or similar qualification
5+ years' experience in larval rearing, husbandry and aquatic animal welfare
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of groups in a diverse community
Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
Computing skills, in particular MS Excel and Word, and basic analytical methods
Experience in applying scientific procedures (e.g., microscopy or molecular work) or familiarity using scientific equipment.
Supervisory skills would be advantageous
Due to the physical nature of the role, you must be physically fit, and able enough to lift/carry up to 20 kg.
