Physiotherapist – Level 3 - Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
John Hunter Children's HospitalJohn Hunter Children's Hospitalprovides a variety of services including complex medical, surgical, major trauma and neonatal care services for Northern NSW.
Being one of three children's hospitals in the state, theywill see nearly 25,000 children and young people present to the emergency department, have 9,000 admitted to hospital and perform over 100,000 occasions of service through outpatient clinics.
About the job :
This position will see you working within the Paediatric Physiotherapy Team at John Hunter Children's Hospital providing management of services to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit which includes a wide range of clinical presentations and ability to work across multiple Multidisciplinary Teams.
In the 7 bed PICU Unit, you will be the sole Therapist assessing and treating respiratory conditions, initiating early rehabilitation and promoting developmental care within the unit Monday to Friday.
In this role you will have close collaborative relationships with JHH ICU Physiotherapists and Medical Staff of the wider ICU Department to ensure seamless cover across 24-hour timespan and also for weekends and public holidays.
You will also work closely with MDT of Intensivists, Registrar's, RN's and Allied Health to ensure best practice, family-centred care.
Non-clinical duties are inclusive of representing Allied Health in the PICU Executive Forum and National / Statewide PICU Network meetings and collaborative projects.
Education and upskilling for junior staff who cover the unit after hours and nursing staff education when requested.
Support will be provided by the Level 5 Head of Department for Paediatric Physiotherapy and there will be regular clinical supervision and opportunity to participate in all aspects of the Paediatric Physiotherapy Department.
This includes regular in-service programs, opportunities for upskilling in common Paediatric outpatient presentations and support for attendance at external seminars and conferences relevant to the role.

Requirements :
Our successful candidate will possess the following :
Physiotherapist with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA.
Willingness to regularly participate in an on-call roster, including the ability to commence work at the John Hunter Hospital within 30 minutes of a call out.
An experienced, skilled professional who possesses extensive Paediatric rehabilitation experience and experience in ICU Physiotherapy management and treatment.
High level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills will be required to maintain effective working relationships with relevant external agencies and internal key stakeholders.
You will have experience in conducting Quality Improvement activities and possess a strong commitment to clinical improvement, evidence-based practice and updating professional skill and knowledge base.
You will be able to confidently lead planning and evaluation of team activities, independently problem-solve and meet the supervision needs of students and / or less experienced staff.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
