About the role
The Media Relations Specialist is responsible for building, promoting and protecting Powerlink's reputation by developing and executing media relations strategies.
The role will maximise proactive positive media coverage of Powerlink and its operations and professionally manage reactive media enquiries to protect Powerlink's brand.
**Your duties will include, but not be limited to**:
Develop and drive strategies for media relations and messaging;
Ensure Powerlink media relations and strategies align with Queensland Government priorities, and manage relationships with Ministerial media advisors;
Identify and develop proactive media opportunities to increase brand awareness and reputation across Queensland;
Prepare speeches and materials for key events, forums and profile building activities as required to support Powerlink's Chief Executive and Executive Team;
Manage day-to-day media enquiries (during business hours) and source relevant information from across the business to develop targeted, strategic responses;
Act as a media spokesperson for Powerlink for relevant media activities;
Develop written materials including media releases, key messages, Q&As;, holding statements as required;
Build relationships with key media contacts across Queensland to maximise positive coverage; and
Manage the provision of media training for Executive Team members and relevant Senior Leaders, as needed.
About the person
To be successful in this role you will be a highly skilled media professional, ideally with experience working in a government entity.
**You will also have**:
Experience developing, coordinating and leading best-practice media relations strategies on high risk and/or high-profile projects;
Prior skills in critically analysing issues and risks affecting your organisation and providing advice on reputation and brand implications and recommending mitigation actions;
The ability to critically review prepared written communication for a variety of purposes including media material, project briefs, speeches, and presentations, copy for specialist publications, and internal reports;
Experience communicating concepts clearly in verbal discussions and presentations, particularly to Executives and Senior Leaders within your organisation;
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
Extensive experience in a communications role within a complex technical organisation; and
Degree level qualifications in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related discipline.
