About the Role
On behalf of our client, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Welder to join their professional fabrication team. This role requires a qualified tradesperson with comprehensive expertise in multiple welding processes and the ability to interpret complex technical specifications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in producing high-quality welds across various materials and positions, while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards. You will be responsible for delivering precision welding work that meets engineering requirements and contributes to the successful completion of diverse structural and industrial projects.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Interpretation & Project Planning
• Analyse and interpret detailed blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to plan welding sequences and methodologies
• Translate precise measurements and design requirements into accurate welding layouts, ensuring compliance with project specifications
• Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to resolve technical queries and optimize welding approaches for complex components
• Document welding procedures and parameters to maintain consistency and quality across production runs
Precision Welding Operations
• Execute high-quality welding on both small precision components and large structural elements, adapting techniques to suit varying project requirements
• Perform welding in multiple positions including flat, vertical, and overhead, maintaining consistent quality and penetration across all orientations
• Operate specialized industrial welding machinery and equipment, optimizing settings for different materials and joint configurations
• Monitor and oversee automated welding equipment, conducting adjustments and quality checks to ensure optimal performance
Quality Assurance & Inspection
• Conduct thorough visual and dimensional inspections of welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify and rectify any defects or inconsistencies
• Implement quality control measures throughout the welding process, ensuring all work meets established standards and project requirements
• Document inspection results and maintain comprehensive quality records to support traceability and continuous improvement
• Collaborate with quality assurance personnel to address any non-conformances and implement corrective actions
Equipment Maintenance & Safety Compliance
• Perform regular maintenance and repair of welding machinery and associated equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability
• Monitor welding equipment for proper operation and temperature control, identifying potential issues before they impact production
• Strictly enforce and adhere to all safety regulations including proper use of heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, safety shoes, and other personal protective equipment
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, implementing housekeeping standards that support safe and efficient operations
Process Optimization & Technical Development
• Continuously monitor welding processes and outcomes, identifying opportunities for improvement in efficiency and quality
• Stay current with advancements in welding technology and techniques, applying new knowledge to enhance work practices
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members, sharing expertise and promoting best practices across the workshop
• Participate in training programs and skill development initiatives to maintain and enhance welding capabilities
Essential Qualifications & Experience
• Relevant trade qualification in Engineering - Fabrication/Welding or equivalent certification
• Minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience in industrial welding within structural steel or heavy fabrication environments
• Demonstrated experience interpreting engineering drawings and working to precise technical specifications
Technical Skills & Competencies
• Comprehensive knowledge of industrial welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools
• Proficiency in multiple welding processes and techniques suitable for structural steel applications
• Ability to weld various materials including mild steel, stainless steel, and high-strength alloys
• Experience operating specialized welding equipment and monitoring automated welding systems
