About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Safety Officer / Safety Advisor to join a large-scale civil construction project in Darwin. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all workplace activities comply with safety legislation, industry standards, and project-specific requirements. You will work closely with site management, contractors, and project teams to foster a strong safety culture and minimise risks on site.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and monitor safety management plans, procedures, and policies for the project.
* Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
* Lead incident investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence.
* Deliver safety training and toolbox talks for site personnel and subcontractors.
* Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure compliance with WHS legislation and standards.
* Provide advice and guidance to management on safety matters, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Promote a proactive safety culture across all levels of the project.
Key Requirements:
* Minimum 8 years' experience in safety management within heavy civil construction or large infrastructure projects.
* Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
* Demonstrated experience in conducting audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage site teams.
* Proven ability to implement safety systems and drive behavioural change.
* Relevant safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, Cert IV WHS, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
