We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Financial Controller to join our leadership team at Mercure Townsville. This role is ideal for a commercially minded finance leader who combines strong technical expertise with strategic insight and a passion for driving performance.
About the Role
As a key member of the hotel’s leadership team, you will oversee all aspects of the financial function while partnering with operational leaders to drive business performance. You will play a critical role in financial planning, governance, and strategic decision-making, ensuring the hotel operates with strong financial discipline and is positioned for sustainable growth.
Excitingly, Mercure Townsville is currently undergoing a significant refurbishment, presenting a unique opportunity to be part of the hotel’s next chapter. As Financial Controller, you will help guide the business through this transformation and support the repositioning and re-release of this iconic property back to market.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
Lead the hotel’s financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cashflow management while ensuring accuracy, transparency, and strong internal controls.
Strategic Partnership
Work closely with the General Manager and department leaders to provide commercial insights that support informed decision-making and long-term planning.
Systems & Technology
Collaborate with IT and corporate teams to ensure financial systems, reporting tools, and infrastructure support operational efficiency and business goals.
Risk & Compliance
Maintain strong governance and compliance frameworks, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, audit standards, and company policies.
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor the finance team while empowering department heads to understand financial performance, cost drivers, and revenue opportunities.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, Owners, external auditors, advisors, and key partners to support operational and financial success.
About You
You are a qualified accounting professional (CA or CPA) with proven experience in financial leadership and a strong track record of driving business performance.
You combine technical expertise with commercial insight and enjoy working closely with operational leaders to translate financial data into meaningful business decisions.
* Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role
* Strong skills in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cashflow management
* The ability to provide strategic financial insight to support operational and commercial decisions
* Experience working within the hotel industry
* A collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor teams and influence across departments
* Strong attention to detail with a focus on governance, compliance, and continuous improvement
