Purpose of the Role
Maranoa Regional Council is seeking an experienced Biosecurity Officer to lead and deliver Council's biosecurity programs across the region.
This role takes ownership of managing invasive animals and plants, driving proactive compliance with the Biosecurity Act ****, and leading education and engagement initiatives that strengthen landholder and community biosecurity outcomes.
You'll work closely with landholders, government agencies, and internal teams to reduce biosecurity risks, enhance sustainable land management, and protect the region's environmental and economic resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the planning and delivery of strategic biosecurity and pest management programs.Provide high-level advice on emerging biosecurity risks and priorities.Coordinate projects and resources to achieve measurable outcomes for the region.
Operational Delivery
Oversee Council's biannual Coordinated Baiting Program and other pest management operations.Conduct targeted field inspections, surveillance, and control programs.Manage biosecurity-related grants and ensure compliance with project requirements.
Regulatory & Compliance
Monitor and enforce biosecurity legislation in line with Council and state priorities.Support landholders to understand and meet their General Biosecurity Obligation (GBO).
Prepare evidence-based reports and compliance documentation.
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
Build and maintain strong working relationships with landholders, community groups, and partner agencies.Deliver practical education and awareness programs to improve local biosecurity capability.Represent Council at industry forums and regional committees.
Policy & Administration
Assist with the development and review operational policies, procedures, and plans.Maintain accurate field and administrative records.Prepare funding applications, reports, and performance reviews that support continuous improvement.
