Position overview

The Aviation, Land and Maritime Transport (ALMT) Program is responsible for the Bureau's business relationships with service delivery partners, government stakeholders, and both domestic and international customers operating in the aviation, land and maritime transport sectors.

The Aviation Customer Engagement team is responsible for leading engagement with the Australian aviation industry. The team is focused on understanding the sector and the customer requirements, building strong customer relationships, rapidly responding to customer opportunities and communicating new offerings and facilitating their adoption by customers. Specific team members focus on commercial air transport, general aviation and aeromedical/emergency aviation.

The Aviation Customer Engagement team leads and coordinates the Bureau's response to aviation investigations; it also leads activities in support of education on aviation meteorological products and the meteorological hazards to aviation customers. The Aviation Customer Engagement team works closely with the Aerodrome Engagement and Aviation Strategic Investment teams to deliver outstanding value to the Australian aviation industry.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated customer engagement specialist to understand the Australian aviation sector, in particular emergency and aeromedical aviation, and to build deep relationships with aviation customers so that the Bureau is best positioned to rapidly respond to opportunities.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with a small team of engagement specialists, to ensure the Bureau's engagement activities are conducted across the whole sector.

They will demonstrate teamwork, as well as experience in building customer relationships and directly engaging with customers to understand their requirements. They will have demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience in emergency aviation, aerial firefighting operations and/or aeromedical transport. Additionally, they will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Role responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

1. Build collaborative customer relationships with the aviation sector, particularly emergency and aeromedical aviation. Collect and share feedback and insights to inform enhancements to our aviation meteorological services.

2. Work collaboratively with Bureau teams to understand customer requirements and to deliver enhanced services for our customers.

3. Arrange and coordinate aviation meteorologist industry visits with customers and identify opportunities for meteorologists to work closely with, and deliver value to, our customers.

4. Design and run an internal customer education program to share transport sector customer intelligence, gained through engagement activities, to ALMT program members and the wider Bureau in general.

5. Represent the Bureau at aviation industry conferences and committees, acting as an advocate for the ALMT Program and for Aviation Meteorological Services in particular.

6. Participate in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of services and products and, as appropriate, the ongoing development, implementation, and maintenance of the quality management system and, where appropriate, the associated AS/NZS ISO 9001 quality management standard certification.

7. Actively work across the Bureau, to ensure a workplace that is safe and diverse, where people grow and are empowered to excel, and where customers come first, trust the Bureau and consider that we are a pleasure to work with.

Qualifications:

A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, which is appropriate to the duties; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.

Merit pool

The selection process will establish a merit pool that may be used to fill similar positions within 18 months.
