Position Summary:

This position will work in the East Kimberley to support the implementation of the Two-Way Science Initiative in this region, funded by NIAA and in collaboration with the Department of Education and Catholic Education WA.

Two-Way Science provides an opportunity for all students to learn from the world's oldest continuing cultures, to strengthen Aboriginal student's wellbeing and engagement and to build respect for Aboriginal histories, cultures, people, knowledges and experiences amongst school staff and students.

The Two-Way Science Initiative aims to improve participation in school and learning outcomes through community engagement and intergenerational transmission of Indigenous knowledge. It builds education partnerships between communities, rangers and schools; leading to increased capacity of Aboriginal families and communities to direct and deliver culturally responsive education programs with education providers and make meaningful connections back to school curriculum.

The Two-Way Science Project Officer will work closely with the Two-Way Science Coordinator and be responsible for operational support and logistics for the delivery of the Initiative.

This position operates out of Kununurra KLC office.

Key Responsibilities:

-Take guidance from traditional owners and cultural advisors regarding project activities

-Operational Support and Logistics: Provide essential operational and logistical support to the Two-Way Science Coordinator for smooth project delivery. This includes assisting with planning, organising, and coordinating activities both on-country and in-class.

-Activity coordination: Support Kimberley ranger groups and schools in delivering educational activities, ensuring all events are aligned with the cultural protocols and goals of the Two-Way Science initiative.

-Resource development: Work with the Coordinator to co-develop Two-Way Science resources tailored to the needs of schools, ranger groups, and local communities, ensuring that resources are culturally appropriate and reflect both traditional knowledge and curriculum-based science, technology, -engineering and mathematics (STEM).

-Monitoring and evaluation support: Assist in ensuring that monitoring of project activities aligns with the monitoring and evaluation framework, including collecting data and preparing reports for internal and external purposes.

-Collaborative support within the Land and Sea unit Team: Support other initiatives within the Unit and the Ranger Capacity and Development team, including Ecology and Women's Ranger Development projects, and explore opportunities to co-deliver ranger support projects with other teams.

-Event support: Assist the Coordinator in planning and delivering workshops, conferences, and presentations to promote Two-Way Science across wider networks.

-Maintain effective networks and mutually respectful relationships within the Kimberley region, Department of Education, Catholic Education WA and or Independent Schools; and with Aboriginal communities and Kimberley Indigenous ranger groups and RNTBCs (Registered Native Title Body Corporates).

Essential:

· Demonstrated skills to plan, coordinate and deliver on-ground activities in a community setting

· Demonstrated well developed communication and interpersonal skills to build mutually respectful relationships and partnerships with Aboriginal communities, organisations and stakeholders

· Organisational skills to manage multiple tasks, timelines, and project components.

· Experience working in remote and/or regional locations, demonstrating the ability to work independently in isolated locations and willingness to travel and camp overnight for short work trips

· Experience in working on education programs

Desirable:

· Ability to understand and communicate the connection between Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) with Traditional Ecological Knowledge.

· Good working knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultural and protocols

· Experience in project tracking, monitoring and evaluation

Applicants must also possess a current C class drivers' licence, a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and have the ability and willingness to travel away
