About the Role
The Senior Project Management Officer is a new position within the newly established Project Management Office, Executive Branch. The Senior Project Management Officer will work with the PMO Manager and team to support the development and implementation of organisational wide programs, plans and projects. These projects may include the replacement of crucial assets such as presses, laser systems, and automation technology, or support improvement initiatives such as supply chain uplift, data collection and craft skills training, or injury prevention.
This work will involve overseeing complex, high value projects across the whole Project Lifecycle. They will be responsible for planning and organising, effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders, preparing high-quality documentation, monitoring and progress reporting and undertaking procurement under the Commonwealth Procurement Rules. They will also develop briefs, minutes and formal documentation to support Executive decision-making. The Senior Project Officer will take an active role in identifying Continuous Improvement opportunities and developing plans to make positive change. They will also provide support to junior team members, and support project initiatives directed by other branches as required. This position will be expected to complete some domestic travel and may be called on to represent the Mint in external forums such as conferences or site visits.
The successful candidate will have some practical experience of conducting Risk Assessments and risk prevention activities relating to both project and WHS issues. This position has some flexibility available but must be able to commit to regular onsite attendance due to the nature of the anticipated projects. The Senior Project Management Officer is expected to demonstrate a strong safety ethic, adhering to all PPE requirements when onsite including wearing High-Vis and hearing protection.
This role operates with a high level of autonomy and self-direction, and requires strong writing skills, time management, and attention to detail.
The Duties
The duties of this position include:
1. Applying an in-depth knowledge of project delivery, governance and assurance frameworks, and methodologies to support the Mint’s project management capability in support of the organisational wide programs, plans and projects.
2. Supporting the planning, prioritisation and delivery of projects, whilst ensuring project outcomes meet agreed scope, time and budget.
3. Implementing project work plans including setting tasks and priorities, managing workflow and allocating and managing resources.
4. Follow a project Change Control Process to track decisions and manage scope creep.
5. Undertaking research and analysis, identifying trends and preparing project briefs, to support informed decision-making on projects.
6. Undertaking procurement and management of vendors and contractors.
7. Collating, editing and writing documentation related to the project including project plans, business cases, procurement plans, consultation and briefs for executive leadership decision-making.
8. Collaborating with stakeholders internal and external to the Mint to support the work of the team and delivery of assigned projects.
9. Monitoring changes in the broader work environment that may impact on work objectives and provide possible solutions for continuous improvement or support change initiatives.
Security
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtainand maintain a clearance at this level..
