The Role
The Town of Port Hedland has an exciting opportunity to join the team in the dynamic role of Emergency Management Advisor. Sprearheading the development of initiatives to strengthen the preparedness and resilience of the community, designing and delivering critical bushfire mitigation activities and undertaking comprehensive pre cyclone season strategies to enhance the organisation, and the communities, ability to respond and recovery from emergencies.
Coordinating exercises designed to test the Local Emergency Management Arrangements and Business Continuity Plans to enhance skills and identify critical gaps will be just one of the invaluable outcomes delivered by this role.
The ideal candidate will have a detailed understanding of the state arrangements for emergency response, experience in emergency and recovery management, and high-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills to build strong relationships with the community, industry and government. Essential to success in the role will be excellent time management skills, high attention to detail and a proactive attitude. You will require a high level of writing and verbal communication skills, as well as fast and efficient desktop mapping, IT and strategic planning skills.
Port Hedland is located experiencing some the highest rates of cyclonic activity in Australia earning both a Region D classification and is often referred to 'Cyclone Alley'. Work Related Requirements
The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol assessment to be considered for this role, as well as possess:
* Tertiary (or equivalent) qualifications in Emergency Management or studying towards and experience in an emergency related field is preferred.
* Comprehensive understanding of contemporary emergency risk management principals
* Fire Control Officer qualifications or demonstrated experience in, understanding of, bush fire prevention and control is also highly desirable.
* National Police Clearance
* Current 'C' class driver's licence
* Rights to work in Australia
