Agon is a national, employee‑owned environmental consultancy delivering high‑value services in contaminated land, environmental management, hazardous materials, and environmental approvals/EIA. With offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Darwin, and Melbourne, we support government and private clients on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
We're expanding in the NT and seeking a Principal Environmental Consultant with capability in Contaminated Land, Environmental Approvals / EIA, or both.
The Opportunity
This senior position gives you the chance to shape a high‑performing team while leading complex, challenging projects across the Northern Territory and interstate. Whether your background is contaminated land, environmental approvals, or dual‑discipline, you'll be a key technical leader and trusted advisor to major clients.
What You Will Do
General Responsibilities (All Candidates)
* Lead multidisciplinary environmental projects from proposal to delivery
* Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, stakeholders
* Lead bids, prepare proposals, and support business development
* Mentor consultants and provide technical leadership
* Deliver high‑quality advice, review reports, and ensure compliance
Contaminated Land (If Applicable)
* Lead PSI/DSI investigations, remediation planning, waste classification
* Oversee soil, groundwater, and vapour assessments
* Manage field programs, contractors, and QA/QC
* Prepare/manage contaminated land reports and audit‑support documentation
* Liaise with EPA‑accredited auditors and regulatory authorities
Environmental Approvals / EIA (If Applicable)
* Lead EIAs for government, infrastructure, and development projects
* Manage multi‑disciplinary technical assessments (ecology, hydrology, heritage, social, etc.)
* Prepare approvals documentation under NT and Commonwealth frameworks
* Coordinate specialist inputs, risk assessments, and regulatory scoping
* Lead stakeholder engagement and regulator liaison
About You
* A respected technical leader with strong client‑facing capability
* Skilled at building relationships and guiding project outcomes
* Excellent technical writer and reviewer
* Proactive, independent, and collaborative
* Experienced in mentoring and developing others
Experience & Qualifications
* 10+ years' experience in contaminated land, environmental approvals/EIA, or both
* Degree in Environmental Science/Engineering, Geoscience, Ecology or related field
* Proven project management and consulting experience
* Strong technical report writing and communication skills
Contaminated Land
* Knowledge of NT + national contaminated land frameworks (NT EP Act, PFAS NEMP, ASC NEPM)
* Experience across PSI/DSI, remediation, waste classification
Environmental Approvals / EIA
* Understanding of NT EP Act (2019), EPBC Act, and relevant pathways
* Experience preparing EIA documentation and coordinating assessments
Highly Regarded
* CEnvP / CEnvP‑IA certification
* Experience in hazardous materials or software such as QGIS, ESDAT or Datanest
Requirements
* Australian Permanent Residency or full working rights
* Current driver's licence + Construction White Card
* Police Check and Working with Children Check (if required)
