The Senior Software Engineer (mobile) will follow relevant quality procedures in order to deliver quality products and services and identify and support the implementation of continuous improvement. This role will undertake additional quality responsibilities (e.g. audit) when appropriately trained to undertake these responsibilities.
You will need to have a strong ability to solve difficult problems outside the standard solution, identify and recommend significant improvements to products. This will involve understanding business problems and proposing solutions before writing a line of code.
At Cochlear, we work in a highly regulated environment, and so it's important to understand and contribute to product requirements and new product concepts within these realms.
Accountabilities will include:
1. Product Development Execution
* Build software solutions within an Agile development framework based on mobile industry best practices.
* Contribute to the product conceptualization and take lead on specific features at squad level through to delivery.
* Contribute to architectural design of the platforms, products, systems, and Cochlear software ecosystem.
* Be involved in understanding business problems and proposing solutions before writing a line of code.
* Consistently demonstrate technical excellence and quality design of product features, challenging status quos and optimizing designs.
* Follow a secure by design approach to identify and enforce cybersecurity best practices in software products.
* Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration
* Maintain expert knowledge of software engineering with a key focus on medical devices.
* Maintain a solid understanding of implanted hearing technologies and developments within the software industry and apply this to the evolution of Cochlear’s products.
* Contribute to setting technology development priorities and strategy within your squad.
* Actively mentor and share knowledge with peers and other software engineers within the organization.
* Develop new contacts and relationships within and outside your squad.
* Continuous Improvement of Technical Processes
* Support the identification and implementation of improvements for the efficiency of the software group and the quality of the products, including the improvement of appropriate tools and practices.
* Keep abreast of software platform trends, developments, and best practices to identify opportunities to improve the future direction of Cochlear’s mobile software technology.
* Actively review, improve, and update tools and technologies used by your squad, such as those for analytics, bug reporting, and build/test automation.
* Improve processes and infrastructure for identifying problems and performance issues in software products.
* Engage in side-projects to contribute innovative ideas to areas outside key responsibility.
* Introduce new technologies to software products that provide innovative solutions to business needs.
Skills Required:
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant field of computing (for example, IT, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics) OR at least 8 years’ experience in a full lifecycle commercial software development environment.
* 4+ years building complex applications for mobile, desktop, or server platforms.
* Significant experience across a breadth of technologies, languages, and platforms.
* Thorough knowledge and experience with Agile development practices.
Ideal:
* Experience with Bluetooth LE.
* Experience in the medical device industry or other related regulated industries.
* Knowledge of secure coding practices and commercial experience developing secure software products.
