The Opportunity
This is a short-term temporary opportunity (4 to 6 weeks) for an experienced Local Laws Officer to support Council operations.
In this role, you will be responsible for investigating, monitoring and enforcing Local Laws and relevant legislation, while also educating the community and promoting compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
* Investigating complaints relating to animal management, overgrown allotments and local law breaches
* Enforcing legislation including the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008, Biosecurity Act 2014 and Environmental Protection Act 1994
* Issuing compliance notices and infringement notices in line with delegated authority
* Delivering community education and engagement initiatives to improve compliance outcomes
* Supporting biosecurity activities including pest, weed and vector control programs
* Liaising with stakeholders, external agencies and the broader community
* Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports, evidence and documentation
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
* Experience in a Local Laws, Compliance or Regulatory role (ideally within Local Government)
* Strong understanding of legislation relevant to Local Laws and biosecurity
* Demonstrated investigative skills and ability to gather evidence and prepare reports
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with the community
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
* A proactive and self‐motivated approach to work
