About the Don River Railway
The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. The integrity of our track and permanent way is absolutely fundamental to the safe and reliable operation of our trains, and to our compliance with the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR).
Opportunity
We are seeking qualified and experienced Trackwork Specialists to join our Permanent Way team. This is a hands-on role where your skills will directly contribute to the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of DRR's railway lines and associated infrastructure. You will be performing physical trackwork tasks crucial for ensuring the ongoing safety and operational continuity of our heritage railway. If you possess the necessary qualifications and experience in track maintenance and are committed to rail safety, this is a vital opportunity to make a direct and significant impact. Qualification and experience in trackwork are highly desired.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
Perform physical track maintenance tasks, including sleeper replacement, rail adjustments, ballast work, and minor repairs to points and crossings.
Utilise track tools and equipment safely and effectively.
Work under the direction of the Permanent Way Inspector or Rail Operations Manager.
Collaborate with other members of the Permanent Way team and Mechanical Workshop.
Adhere strictly to all DRR safety procedures, including those outlined in the Safety Management System (SMS) and Rulebook.
Assist with vegetation management along the track corridor as required.
