About the Department The Anaesthesia Department at Maitland Hospital, opened in 2022 within modern facilities, plays a vital role in surgical and procedural patient care across various specialties. The team provides comprehensive anaesthetic services for procedures including general surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, ENT, paediatrics, ophthalmology, and more. Support extends to endoscopy, diagnostic imaging, and interventional procedures. The department boasts state-of-the-art theatres, advanced monitoring, and a Level 5 ICU, with plans for expansion to 8 theatres and 2 procedural rooms.
Key Features Collaborative multidisciplinary team including Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers. Active involvement in pre-operative assessments and pain management. Obstetric anaesthesia support for labour and delivery, including epidurals and emergency caesareans. Educational opportunities with accreditation for ANZCA and GP Anaesthetic training, and participation in simulation and professional development. Qualifications and Experience Medical degree registered with AHPRA and Fellowship of ANZCA or eligibility via overseas pathways. Recent, comprehensive anaesthesia experience demonstrating expertise. International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) Support is available for SIMGs through expedited pathways, with a supportive recruitment environment and assistance for settlement and registration.
