We make sure Australian exports meet international standards through inspections, audits and certifications. Our work helps expand trade by negotiating technical access for food and other products. We also manage quotas under trade agreements and represent Australia in setting global food standards.

From meat inspection and halal certification to managing digital export systems and tariff rate quotas, we support smooth trade operations and uphold high standards that keep Australian products moving into key global markets.
As an Administration Officer in the Meat Exports Branch, you will provide operational and regulatory support across export certification, quota administration, documentation, registration, and licencing functions. Officers work in a fast-paced regulatory environment and are responsible for managing cases, systems and stakeholder interactions that support Australia’s meat export framework.

As an Administration Officer, your duties may include:
* Managing and processing applications, cases and requests that support regulatory and licencing activities, in line with legislation, policy and procedures.
* Monitoring shared mailboxes and correspondence channels, ensuring timely, accurate and professional responses to industry and government stakeholders.
* Providing clear advice to exporters and internal stakeholders on requirements, documentation, quotas, regulation or licencing matters.
* Maintaining accurate records and administering information in departmental systems and databases.
* Supporting the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of operational processes, guidance material and work instructions.
* Assisting with reporting activities, including extracting and analysing data to support operational decisions and performance reporting.
* Contributing to small projects, system changes or process improvements within the team.
* Working collaboratively with colleagues and supporting broader branch and division priorities.
* Managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines in a regulated environment under broad direction.
Please note that the merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
Our ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and experience (desirable but not mandatory):
* Experience working in an administrative, operational or regulatory environments.
* Experience managing cases or applications and working with established procedures.
* Exposure to public sector programs, regulation, licencing, compliance or service delivery.
* Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders and responding to enquiries.
* An understanding, or ability to quickly develop an understanding, of legislation, policy and procedural frameworks.
* Experience working with business systems, databases or case management tools.
* An interest in export regulation, quotas, food safety, animal health, or international trade.
* Export policy, program, legislation or agricultural industry experience.
