Taylor Hopkinson have partnered with a leading global company focusing on design and manufacturing renewable energy systems, platforms and products.
About the Role
We are seeking a technically exceptional Principal Engineer - Grid-Forming Power System Modelling to join our advanced engineering team. This critical role focuses on modelling, simulation, and validation of grid-forming energy technologies-including energy storage systems, wind farms, and plant-level controllers-for both domestic and international power systems.
You will work closely with grid compliance, solutions, and control algorithm teams to develop high-fidelity models, support grid connection processes, and ensure our technologies meet evolving grid code requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and validate dynamic simulation models using tools such as PSSE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSCAD for grid-forming inverters, plant controllers, and hybrid renewable systems.
* Collaborate with global solution teams and system operators to deliver models and simulation reports for grid interconnection and compliance purposes.
* Support grid code compliance assessments in both domestic (e.g., NEM) and international markets, identifying and mitigating technical integration risks.
* Participate in the design and evaluation of control algorithms for wind turbines, BESS, and hybrid power systems (source-grid-load-storage).
* Conduct security and stability analysis for large-scale renewable plants and microgrid applications, providing insights into system strength, inertia, and fault ride-through performance.
Key Requirements
* Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or Control Systems Engineering.
* Proven experience with grid-forming or grid-following modelling and simulation in at least one of the following platforms: PSSE, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD/EMTDC.
* Deep understanding of renewable grid integration, control strategies, and power system dynamics (voltage/frequency stability, small signal analysis, etc.).
* Experience delivering models and grid studies for AEMO, National Grid, or other international grid operators.
* Familiarity with control algorithm development, converter-based generation, and hybrid plant operation is highly desirable.
* Strong technical communication skills, especially for interfacing with utility clients and regulatory bodies.
