The Defence Digital Group (DDG) Engineering Branch is seeking experienced Solutions Architects with strong capabilities in systems architecture, technical leadership, and software engineering. These roles are pivotal in delivering secure, scalable IT solutions that enable future ICT transformations across Defence environments.
We're looking for individuals with a desire to make real change and a deep understanding of architectural principles, patterns, and frameworks, backed by hands-on experience delivering transformational IT projects and systems.
Responsibilities
Analysing current systems to design comprehensive technical solutions that future-prove Defence's IT landscape.
Advising on the selection of hardware, software, and other technologies, and providing technical direction to development teams.
Overseeing solution implementation to ensure alignment with the broader IT landscape and organisational objectives.
Proactively identifying project risks and issues, and driving effective mitigation strategies.
Communicating complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including product owners, capability managers, and senior leaders.
Creating and maintaining documentation such as user stories, component specifications, and implementation designs.
Participating in assurance reviews and governance processes.
About the Team
You will be part of a team of ICT professionals delivering complex projects across key Digital domains in both the Military and Enterprise Systems Divisions within Defence Digital Group (DDG). In this role you will be a leader, provide technical expertise and mentorship to junior team members in a matrixed construct, as teams and individuals embedded into projects as needed.
As a Digital Engineer in DDG you may either:
Lead a team of ICT professionals experienced in key technology platforms/products, or
Work individually on projects as the technical engineering SME. We commit to providing additional professionalisation for the right candidates so you can continue to grow and develop your career.
Ideal Candidate
Extensive experience in analysing requirements, designing solutions, and assuring large-scale enterprise ICT systems that support complex and transformational business needs.
Expertise in hybrid and multi-cloud networks, multi-technology integration, DevSecOps practices, ICT solutions architecture, software engineering, and model-based engineering.
Proven ability to develop and maintain solution architecture documentation and conduct architecture evaluations.
A strong track record of translating business needs into technical solutions aligned with enterprise architecture roadmaps and security frameworks.
Experience in solution assurance and governance, including maintaining traceability, stakeholder alignment, and structured decision-making.
A sense of adventure and a willingness to contribute to new ways of working within the Branch.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across cross-functional teams and foster a high-performance culture.
Eligibility
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at "Negative Vetting Level 1".
Remuneration
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP), which provides a premium in addition to the base salary under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA).
