Overview
Transport for NSW is seeking 2 experienced Tunnel System Technicians to join the Tunnels & Ferries Team under Road Maintenance & Resilience.
Reporting to the System Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, configuring, and upgrading operational management and control systems (OMCS) and associated tunnel safety technologies in a 24/7 operating workplace.
Role Details
- Location: Byron Bay, NSW
- Rate: $95 per hour + super + Overtime + Allowances
- Duration: 6 months Assignment (with possible extension)
- Hours: 40 hours per week (on-site, 5 days)
- Start: ASAP
Key Responsibilities
- Attend to reported failures of OMCS equipment (servers, storage, and network) and software on a rotating callout roster.
- Conduct monitoring, preventative maintenance, configuration, and backup of specialised OMCS infrastructure including PMCS, TMCS, PLCs, operating systems, and applications.
- Act as the first point of contact for OMCS issues reported by RTOC, triaging and directing faults to the appropriate internal or external team.
- Coordinate with vendors and internal stakeholders to minimise downtime and restore failed systems.
- Maintain detailed records of system faults, defects, and maintenance activities.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by developing technical work instructions and procedures.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience maintaining SCADA/industrial control/safety-critical systems (or comparable industries).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across virtual platforms, operating systems, and software (Microsoft Windows, VMware vCenter, Veeam Backup, Solarwinds, Genetec, Studio 5000).
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, enterprise servers, and network platforms (CCNA or equivalent desirable).
- Cert IV or higher in Control Systems, Electronics, IT, Computer Science, or Communication Networks, or equivalent professional experience.
- Current Australian driver’s licence (minimum Provisional P1).
- Willingness to work on-call and travel to other tunnel assets when required.

- Ensuring high availability of tunnel systems in a 24/7 operational environment with limited maintenance windows.
- Coordinating effectively with both internal teams and external vendors to minimise disruptions.

- Internal: Traffic Operations Team, Customer Service Operations Team
- External: OMCS Vendors, contractors, and other key partners
