As our Lead Engineer, you'll be both hands-on in the trenches and thinking ahead architecturally, building today while designing for where the platform needs to be tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities
* Architect, build, and maintain Nevam's core platform with a focus on scalability, security, and reliability
* Own the full technology stack: frontend, backend, infrastructure, and operations
* Translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical strategies and execution plans
* Establish best practices across code quality, documentation, testing, deployment, and observability
* Actively manage technical debt, ensuring it is not only documented but clearly communicated and prioritised
* Select and integrate technologies, frameworks, APIs, and cloud services to maximise agility and long-term flexibility
* Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Marketing, and Customer teams
* Interface directly with customers for technical discovery, security reviews, and solution design
* Mentor future engineering hires and help build a strong, problem-solving engineering culture
* Work effectively with our offshore development team while gradually supporting the build-out of in-house capability

Skills & ExperienceMust-Haves
* 5+ years professional software engineering experience, with strong full-stack focus
* Proven experience architecting and operating systems on Google Cloud
* AI product experience — building, integrating, or experimenting with LLMs, agents, or AI-driven workflows
* Familiarity with AI coding tools and agents, with a strong understanding of their strengths and limitations
* Expert-level JavaScript / TypeScript experience
* Strong frontend experience with Vue (or React/Angular with demonstrated transferability)
* Backend experience building APIs and services (e.g. Node.js, Python, or equivalent)
* Experience designing and operating production systems end-to-end
* Strong systems thinking — able to design scalable, maintainable architectures from scratch
* Comfortable working in agile, distributed teams with strong documentation and testing practices
Highly Valued
* Experience building complex interactive canvas or whiteboard-style UIs
* (e.g. Canvas API, SVG, WebGL, WebGPU, WASM)
* Experience with real-time collaboration systems
* (e.g. WebSockets, CRDTs, operational transforms)
* Experience designing or working with graph-based architectures or data models
* Agile working rhythm with full testing processes and SOC II compliance expectations
* Previous startup or agency experience, including 0→1 products
* Strong UI/UX instincts — you care about craft and user experience
Team & Reporting
* Reports directly to the Founder / CEO
* Works closely with Product, Design, and Marketing
* Collaborates daily with an offshore development team (India), while helping shape future in-house growth
* Will lead the engineering and technical function initially, with the opportunity to build and manage a team over time

* Hybrid role based in Sydney or Melbourne
* Flexible mix of remote and in-office work
