The role is based at DroneShield's central Sydney headquarters. Overseas on‐the‐ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries worldwide.
About the role
DroneShield is looking for an Accountant for a 6‐month contract based in Sydney.
This person will be a critical member of the finance function, having exposure to an entrepreneurial and dynamic company with a highly motivated team, who have a great attitude and take ownership of the responsibilities assigned to them.
The position will report to the Head of Reporting who will provide mentoring and development. This position is an exceptional opportunity for a results‐driven individual with a desire to develop their accounting career in a fast‐growing ASX defence technology company.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
* Creation of management report templates, including designing standardised reporting frameworks, dashboards, and financial models to support senior management decision‐making and ensure consistency across reporting periods.
* Preparation of journal entries and GL reconciliations, including recording accruals, prepayments, and adjusting entries in accordance with accounting standards, and performing timely month‐end reconciliations of all general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
* Prepare monthly financial reports including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and other ad hoc reports, including variance analysis against budget and prior periods.
* Prepare schedules for audit and address audit queries, including compiling supporting documentation and working papers for internal and external auditors, coordinating responses to audit requests, and implementing any recommendations arising from the audit process.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
* 2+ years of experience in a similar role.
* Knowledge of accounting principles (AASB/IFRS).
* Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting.
* Excellent analytical and problem‐solving skills.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Proficiency in accounting software and systems.
* Experience in Oracle is highly regarded.
