Goldfields Region manages 8.6 million hectares of conservation reserves including national parks, conservation parks, nature reserves, timber reserves and former pastoral leases. Staff work with traditional owners to protect natural and cultural values, ensuring customary activities and traditional practices are maintained. The Region is also responsible for fire preparedness, weed and feral animal control on 40.3 million hectares of unallocated Crown land and unmanaged reserves.
We are seeking a Conservation Operations Officer – Flora/Fauna to join our team.
Under the limited supervision of the Regional Leader Conservation, this position:
* Participates in providing expert technical support to the conservation program in the Goldfields Region in relation to threatened flora and threatened fauna species recovery programs.
* Plans and implements surveys and mapping for threatened and priority (TP) flora and fauna.
* Updates and maintains district databases for TP flora and fauna.
Selection Criteria
* Considerable knowledge of Australian biodiversity and ecological processes, threats to biodiversity, and conservation management, with an ability to apply technical knowledge to moderately complex biodiversity and conservation issues to achieve desirable conservation outcomes.
* Considerable experience and knowledge in the design, development and implementation of botanical and fauna surveys, biodiversity monitoring and evaluation programmes for threatened species recovery.
* Considerable experience in collating, analysing biophysical data for projects, managing datasets and using computer skills for report writing, spreadsheets and creating databases, integrated with GIS applications for landscape mapping.
* Willing and able to undertake field trips, possessing established organisational skills relevant to undertaking field trips, and the ability to train and supervise groups of volunteers in field situations.

Prior to Commencement, the Successful Applicant Must Possess or Obtain:
* A current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check.
