BackSpace is an innovative multi-disciplinary spine rehabilitation practice developed by medical specialists with extensive knowledge and experience treating patients with spinal conditions and back pain. The expert multidisciplinary team includes Clinical Nurses, Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists and Massage Therapists. They are supported by a group of medical specialists including Spine Surgeons, Pain Physicians, Occupational and Rehabilitation Specialists, and Musculoskeletal Radiologists.
To complete this unique multidisciplinary specialist service, we are looking for a Psychologist who has experience and a special interest in treating patients with chronic pain, pre-operative anxiety, and adjustment to life changes associated with spinal conditions. Who we are looking for:
* A Clinical Psychologist who is registered with AHPRA
* Experience in somatic psychology, chronic pain management, and health-related anxiety or adjustment disorders
* A sports psychologist would be a good fit from a motivational, goal setting perspective
* Excellent interpersonal communications skills
* Empathetic, compassionate yet practical nature with a desire to provide insightful treatment
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
* Impeccable standards of personal presentation and hygiene
* Competence and confidence with digital communication
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
What the role involves:
* Conducting pre-operative psychological assessments to determine patients' suitability for surgery
* Treating pre-operative patients who require psychological preparation, education and support to optimize surgical outcomes
* Treating post-operative patients after their spinal surgeries and pain procedures
* Treating out-patients who present to the clinic with back and neck problems
* Continuing the care of the surgical patients in the clinic after discharge
* Working closely with other allied health team members and medical specialists involved in the care of a patient
* Liaising with the clinical team including the spine and pain specialists and their nursing staff to secure optimal outcomes for patients
* Contributing to ongoing development of multidisciplinary treatment plans and protocols

* Contract position secured by a Service Level Agreement
* Indicative hourly income of $125-$150
