Want to be part of an exciting and dynamic team caring for young consumers with mental illness helping them on their mental health journey? We are looking for a Peer Worker with lived experience who can be a supportive and encouraging part of the Youth Brief Intervention Service (yBIS) team helping consumers on their mental health journey. Working 2 days per week ( must include a Tuesday).
The yBIS Peer Worker will provide high quality recovery orientated, trauma informed support to people who access the Youth Brief Intervention Service (yBIS) - a hybrid virtual youth mental health assessment and brief intervention service.
yBIS aims to offer a timely and brief intervention for people who have recently experienced a mental health crisis involving self-harm and / or suicidal thoughts or behaviours and have presented in crisis to SMHTAL, ESMHS Acute Care Team, POWH Emergency Department, or to headspace Bondi. The pilot program will offer a developmentally appropriate approach to young people who require outreach / assertive crisis intervention or short term follow up (up to 6 weeks) to reduce the likelihood of further presentations and hospital admissions.
The yBIS Peer Worker will provide specialist person centred and compassionate care to young people experiencing a mental health crisis and at risk of suicide and support them to access services to address the underlying factors contributing to their distress.
The yBIS Peer Worker will draw on their personal lived experience to provide recovery-orientated and trauma informed peer support for people who access yBIS. Support may include psychosocial support, safety planning, recovery/wellness planning, individual or group peer support, advocacy, collaborative identification of community support, follow up and support to access other services.

Selection Criteria:
* Personal lived experience of mental health crisis, and ability to meaningfully and purposefully use lived experience to provide peer support to people at risk of suicide.
* Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to successfully complete within 18 months of commencing, including completion of CHCCCS003 module: Increase the safety of individuals at risk of suicide, and willingness to complete other essential training as soon as practical. For Graduate Health Education Officers, additional relevant health degree required.
* Demonstrated experience in using recovery orientated, trauma informed principles and situational distress approaches in providing support to people experiencing suicidal distress.
* Understanding of the suicide prevention sector and ability to utilise appropriate suicide prevention support such as crisis response, safety planning and managing risk.
* Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to co-design, recovery orientated, trauma informed approaches and lived experience leadership in service provision.
* Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within the multi-disciplinary team and with a diverse range of stakeholders including consumers, families and service providers.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrated excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
