Summary
Hillcroft Farms Pty Ltd, a large-scale mixed farming business located in Lol Gray, WA, is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter (General) to support their agricultural operations. This permanent full-time role involves the maintenance, fabrication, and repair of mechanical systems, components, and farm machinery vital to daily production.
About the Role
As a Fitter (General) at Hillcroft Farms, you will be responsible for inspecting, assembling, maintaining, and repairing a broad range of equipment used in cropping and livestock enterprises. This includes grain handling systems, irrigation systems, diesel-powered machinery, and infrastructure associated with piggery and shearing operations.
You will work in both a fully equipped on-farm workshop and in the field, responding to breakdowns, preventative maintenance, and seasonal mechanical requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
In accordance with the ANZSCO - Fitter (General) occupational classification, the role includes:
- Assembling and fitting fabricated metal parts into machinery and equipment used in broadacre cropping, livestock handling, and feed milling
- Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing worn or defective farm machinery components such as shafts, bearings, chains, hydraulic systems, augers, and conveyors
- Aligning, positioning, and securing parts and subassemblies using hand tools and measuring instruments
- Performing maintenance and overhauls on fixed and mobile plant, including grain augers, seeders, mixers, pumps, and harvest equipment
- Interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and specifications to ensure correct installation and alignment
- Welding and fabricating structural components and supports for sheds, pens, and machinery setups
- Maintaining water and feed system infrastructure, including pumps, pipes, and valves
- Performing routine maintenance and conducting quality assurance checks to minimise breakdowns during peak farming seasons
- Maintaining accurate maintenance logs and equipment servicing records
- Complying with workplace health and safety (WHS) policies and biosecurity protocols
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet one of the following:
- Hold an AQF Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (or equivalent qualification); OR
- Have at least 3 years of full-time work experience in a similar mechanical fitting role, preferably in an agricultural or industrial setting
Required Skills and Attributes
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment
- Skilled in mechanical diagnosis, fitting, and assembly
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Competent in MIG and stick welding for repair and fabrication work
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability under field conditions
- Ability to read technical manuals and interpret mechanical diagrams
- Awareness of safety procedures in workshop and on-farm environments
- Valid driver's licence required (HR preferred)
