The School
Avonvale Primary School (PS) is a small, community-based school located in Northam, on Ballardong Boodja. Our students learn in classrooms and outdoors, from literacy and numeracy foundations to Outdoor Learning and Two-Way Science. Every Wednesday, class teachers receive their DOTT together to enable collaboration, shared planning, and professional dialogue. This structure supports the collective growth of our teaching team and coherence across classrooms.
Our work is grounded in healing-centred, trauma-informed practice through the Berry Street Education Model (BSEM). We are guided by the belief that when the adults change, everything changes.
We are seeking teachers who thrive in a culture of care, high expectations, and reflection, and who view challenge as an opportunity for growth. We are proud of our recognitions, including 2025 WA Education Awards Finalists for Excellence in Wellbeing and Learning, and the 2024 Sydney Opera House PLAY Award.
We strive for a calm, connected culture where staff support one another, lead with heart, and continuously reflect to ensure every child is known, seen, and successful.
The Role
Avonvale PS is seeking a Primary Teacher to join a committed and caring team. The successful candidate will build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues while delivering high-quality, explicit teaching grounded in evidence-informed practices. They should be culturally responsive and able to create engaging learning environments that reflect our community and Country, and to foster collaboration, curiosity, and ongoing professional growth.
The ideal applicant is a passionate educator who believes every child can learn and thrive, with a focus on strong pedagogy, instructional clarity, and continuous improvement. They should be a reflective practitioner who engages in professional learning and coaching, displaying kindness, resilience, and emotional intelligence under pressure, contributing to a staff culture grounded in trust, humour, and collective efficacy. Both graduate and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply.
