**Your new role**
As a Principal Case Officer, you'll be a linchpin in their Statutory Planning & Engineering Team. You'll oversee the assessment of Statutory Permit Applications, wielding your expertise to make and recommend decisions.
You'll engage with a myriad of stakeholders, working closely with other teams to negotiate complex technical engineering and planning determinations. Your negotiation, advocacy, influencing and presentation skills will shape Melbourne's future, ensuring the best outcomes for water management, flood safety, and sustainable development.
Responsibilities include:
- Assessing all types of statutory development permits, making and recommending decisions
- Interpreting state and business policy on development standards
- Defending decisions at VCAT, Ombudsman, BAB and Ministerial enquiries, with mínimal supervision
- Providing technical flood advice in accordance with state and department's policies and procedures
- Ensuring timely and effective resolution of most types of escalations and complaints
- Maintaining relationships with key stakeholders
**What you'll need to succeed**
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning, Building Surveying or Engineering or closely aligned discipline, with preference for statutory planning
- Demonstrated experience in statutory development decision-making in a referral authority, local or state government
- Extensive understanding of the urban planning and development industry
- Demonstrated experience in managing, preparing evidence and presenting to VCAT, BAB, Ombudsman and appeal bodies
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and high level verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain relationships
- Demonstrated proficiency in using technology, systems, process for delivering services
