The Role
Hedland SHS is currently seeking a highly experienced, dynamic, innovative, and proactive Teacher/Year Coordinator to join our whole school Student Support team. The year coordinator works collaboratively with the onsite allied support team and wider school staff and community to promote the wellbeing of each student. They support the school in maintaining a positive learning environment where each student's physical, social, intellectual, and emotional development is fostered and our students thrive. In collaboration with the Deputy Principal and Student Support Managers, you will review behaviour support processes and lead the implementation of a streamlined framework applied consistently by the whole school. You will proactively promote a sense of belonging for all students, work restoratively to resolve conflict, and engage in participatory decision‐making resulting in improved community relationships and regular attendance. Depending upon the year group led, you will coordinate transition programs, organise activities, rewards and functions; provide counsel to students, parents/carers and staff on academic, behavioural, attendance, social and emotional concerns; and develop, implement and monitor programmes (both in‐school and extra‐curricular) to maximise participation. You will lead the development and implementation of documented plans to support student engagement and behaviour across all school settings.

As an excellent classroom practitioner, you will support other staff to refine their classroom management skills within a positive behaviour support (PBS) environment. Your organisational and collaborative skills will enable you to liaise with internal and external stakeholders to lead case management for your cohort, support student leadership, and ensure your cohort learns effective communication, active citizenship, community collaboration and decision‐making. As a lifelong learner, you will reflect on practice, continuously improve processes and outcomes.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Hedland SHS in 2026 are eligible to receive an of $4,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro‐rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff receive a percentage on commencement and the remainder at year‐end.
Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers
Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or in a South West Education Region school*, may elect to undertake this role as a 3‐year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the appointment, teachers can return to their substantive role or transfer permanently into this school.
