Assistant Accountant - Western Suburbs - Steel Distributor
Your new company
You will be working with one of Victoria's largest steel distributors, part of a larger group which owns 80+ properties in Victoria's Construction, Operations and Materials sector.
Your new role
Assist with month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
Maintain accurate general ledger entries across multiple entities.
Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation as required.
Assist with year-end financial processes and audit preparation.
Support cashflow processes
Complete daily bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts.
Prepare payment runs, ensuring correct authorisation and adherence to internal controls.
Support cashflow monitoring, forecasting, and intercompany funding requirements.
Oversee all compliance regarding; tenancy, ESM, property-related financial matters.
Support preparation of documentation for tax returns and regulatory reporting.
Ensure accurate record keeping for FBT, payroll tax, WorkCover, and superannuation compliance.
Prepare BAS, GST, PAYG and other statutory lodgement data for review by the Financial Controller.
Maintain accuracy of accounting systems, Xero files, and document controls.
Identify opportunities to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
Assist with the implementation of new systems, reporting tools, and operational improvements.
What you'll need to succeed
Experience in a similar Assistant Accounting role
Construction or Property experience desired
Strong understanding of AR and billings
Tertiary qualification in accounting or finance (degree preferred)
MYOB & Xero experience is advantageous but not essential.
Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with a range of personalities
GST and BAS preparation experience
