This role is responsible for providing expert legal assistance and advice on complex employment, litigation, and industrial relations matters affecting the organisation and its employees.
The Senior Legal Counsel will play a pivotal role in managing disputes effectively, including negotiating settlements, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), arbitration, and litigation in courts and tribunals.
Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and overseeing the litigation strategy to ensure alignment with corporate objectives.
The successful candidate will provide authoritative advice on complex litigation matters, including commercial disputes, regulatory compliance, administrative law challenges, and contractual issues.
ER/IR
The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing authoritative advice on legislative and common law obligations affecting employment policies and procedures.
This includes workplace relations legislation, discrimination law, and work health and safety obligations.
People
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all staff and external stakeholders to ensure organisational objectives are achieved.
Manage external legal counsel relationships to ensure cost-effective and high-quality external legal advice and representation.
Compliance, Systems, and Reporting
Ensure all legal advice and services comply with professional legal standards, including Legal Services Directions and practising certificate requirements.
Proactively manage compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will require:
* Appropriate tertiary qualifications in law.
* 10+ years of PQE in employment and industrial relations law or commercial litigation advising.
* Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia.
* Ability to hold a Practising Certificate in the Australian Capital Territory.
* Demonstrated advocacy experience in Federal Commissions and Tribunals.
* Sound technical skills in employment and industrial relations legal matters.
