About the Role:
As a Senior Software Engineer in one of our Core Services Teams, you will be responsible for maintaining a number of services to a high standard of quality and availability. This role will require you to develop, test and maintain existing software systems while also being able to design and propose new features to address new emerging challenges and customer requests.
To drive success in this role, you will have demonstrable experience working in backend focused web applications, databases and a good understanding of content management systems. As a software engineer in this team you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end lifecycle of software from managing product requirements and refining tasks to implementing code, conducting reviews, monitoring software systems and supporting internal customers of the services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, test, deploy, monitor and optimise software products and services, ensuring high quality and performance.
* Own the feature lifecycle and support the team to define and refine product requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
* Manage individual priorities and deliverables effectively, contributing to team goals and project timelines of the wider organisation.
* Contribute to solution design and technical planning with product teams and other cross‑functional teams.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
What you will bring:
* Minimum 5 years backend focused web application development in Python using Django framework with a good understanding of the Django ORM and Wagtail.
* Experience working with relational databases and optimising queries for performance.
* Experience with background tasks and queues (ideally with Celery).
* Good understanding of web application security and modern DevOps practices.
* Experience and exposure to technologies and services such as Docker, AWS / GitLab / Github, Redis / RabbitMQ, Kubernetes / HELM, Grafana / Datadog.
