The Role
This critical role is highly focused on project execution, variation management, and subcontract administration within a technical and risk-averse environment. The successful candidate will act as the crucial commercial link between the project team, subcontractors and client.
Core Responsibilities:
- Subcontract Management: Lead the procurement, negotiation, drafting, and administration of all subcontracts for a portfolio of environmental and civil projects, ensuring terms align with the Head Contract.
- Variation & Claim Management: Proactively identify, prepare, negotiate, and submit variations, Extension of Time (EOT) claims, and latent condition claims to the client (this is a vital function for maintaining project profitability in remediation).
- Financial Administration: Manage all commercial paperwork, including progress claims, invoicing (Head Contract and Subcontracts), final accounts, and cost control reporting (e.g. Cost to Complete).
- Head Contract Compliance: Interpret complex Head Contract terms (often bespoke or modified AS/FIDIC) to ensure project teams are compliant with client obligations, especially regarding environmental guarantees and safety standards.
- Risk & Dispute Support: Maintain accurate contractual records (correspondence, instructions, delays) and assist the Project Manager and General Counsel in managing potential disputes and litigation.
The Candidate
The successful candidate will have ideally around 5+ years contract management experience and currently working in the civil construction / infrastructure / environmental sector. You will ideally have:
- Contract Knowledge: Expertise in managing and administering common Australian contract forms (e.g., AS 4000, AS 4902, or bespoke D&C; contracts)
- Technical Interface: Ability to read and understand technical specifications (environmental and engineering) and integrate those into commercial and contractual terms
- Communication & Collaboration: Ability to confidently and skilfully interact across all levels (both written and oral)
- Financial Administration & Compliance: Accurate cost reporting and cash flow skills along with adherence to legal and commercial attributes
