An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and passionate Dietitian to join the supportive and dynamic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) within Hunter New England Local Health District. This senior clinical role provides direct support to the Hunter Valley (Maitland) and Manning (Taree) CAMHS teams, while also offering district-wide clinical leadership and support to Dietitians across HNE CAMHS. The position is primarily based at the HNE High Street Campus in Maitland, with free onsite parking available. Some travel across the Hunter Valley and Manning regions will be required, with telehealth clinics utilized to support equitable access to care.
At CAMHS, we work within a highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment where shared learning, professional support, and strong therapeutic relationships are central to achieving positive outcomes for young people and their families. Our model of care emphasizes individual therapy for children and adolescents, alongside dual‐clinician approaches that support effective family‐based interventions and recovery‐focused care.
Staff are well supported through local governance structures, experienced senior clinicians, and the broader CAMHS and Mental Health networks. Clinical decision‐making, risk management, and service improvement initiatives are approached collaboratively, ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence‐based, and innovative care across the service.
The Opportunity
As the Mental Health Senior Clinical Dietitian Level 4 within the CAMHS Hunter Valley and Manning teams, you will provide advanced dietetic assessment, therapeutic intervention, consultation, and case coordination for children, adolescents, and families experiencing complex and severe mental health challenges, including eating disorders and other nutrition‐related mental health presentations. This senior role also provides district‐wide professional leadership, consultation, and clinical support to community and inpatient teams, while contributing to service development, workforce capability, and clinical governance initiatives across CAMHS Nutrition and Dietetics services.
Your Day May Include
* Delivering specialised nutrition assessments and therapeutic interventions
* Participating in multidisciplinary case discussions and care planning
* Providing consultation and clinical guidance to clinicians and teams across the district
* Supporting family‐based and recovery‐oriented models of care
* Conducting outreach clinics across the Manning region, either face‐to‐face or via telehealth
* Collaborating with hospitals, GPs, schools, NGOs, and other community services involved in a young person's care
* Supporting clinical supervision, mentoring, and professional development for junior clinicians and students
While most clinical work is undertaken from our Maitland base, the role also includes outreach and telehealth service delivery to ensure equitable access to specialist mental health nutrition services across the region.
Our service is focused on delivering specialist mental health assessment, intervention, and stabilisation, while supporting young people and families on their recovery journey and transition from public mental health services.
Regular multidisciplinary collaboration supports shared clinical decision‐making, risk management, and professional growth. Clinical supervision is provided internally, with access to external supervision and specialist training opportunities where appropriate. Ongoing professional development is actively encouraged, with opportunities to undertake further training aligned with both service needs and individual career goals.
