About this opportunity
TAFE Queensland seeks an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Counsellor to join its team. This role is a key member of the Student Support team, providing confidential short-term counselling services to current students to help them overcome barriers to successful participation and progress in educational activities.
* Key Responsibilities:
* Provide support to students experiencing psychological, emotional and/or financial distress affecting their performance and progress.
* Assess and provide advice on possible responses and referrals to critical incidents.
* Provide study guidance to existing and prospective students promoting TAFE Queensland courses and pathways for students.
* Support teaching/administrative staff in relation to behavioural management of students, including assisting and organising skill development programs for small groups of students with concerns or special needs.
* Collaborate with relevant government agencies and community organisations to support student access and outcomes.
* Act as a link between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and other regional staff, including teaching staff.
About the ideal applicant
The ideal applicant will be someone who has a proven track record in delivering student support services, meeting business objectives, maintaining current knowledge of student support practices, systems and processes, and working collaboratively with stakeholders and colleagues.
Qualifications/Requirements
Mandatory Requirements:
* A degree in Educational Psychology, Psychology or Social Work or other degree qualification(s) from a recognised tertiary institution.
* This recruitment process is only open to applicants who identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
