We are seeking an experienced Orchard Manager to lead the management of a designated section of our expanding macadamia orchards in Maryborough, Queensland. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of macadamia orchard operations, a commitment to safety and precision, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
In this role, you will work closely with the Area Manager and Operations Manager to plan, coordinate, and oversee day-to-day orchard activities, including operational, maintenance, and irrigation tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Operations Manager you will be responsible for:
* Maximising yields through systematic planning, operational efficiency, optimising crop performance, completion of tasks and removal of constraints in conjunction with other roles.
* Assisting with the development and monthly review of operational budgets and capital expenditure optimising expenditure where possible and meeting forecasts.
* Overseeing farm maintenance and operational activities including but not limited to:
o Spraying
o Pruning, fertilising, slashing, and mulching
o Irrigation
o Harvesting
o Inspect for pests and implement management measures
o Farm maintenance and drainage, including continuous improvement of systems.
* Leading and developing workers, managing disciplinary and non-compliance issues as required.
* Acting as a role model by demonstrating precise and safe work behaviours and reinforcing policies and procedures.
* Identify training needs of workers.
* Participating in nutrition and irrigation management planning.
* Contributing to the development and improvement of farming systems, safety and environmental processes.
* Ensuring records and forms are maintained for development and operational inputs, maintenance, chemical spraying, fertilising, irrigating, safety, payroll and cost allocation timesheets.
Requirements
The following criteria are essential to be successful in this position:
* A valid C-class driver’s license.
* Formal training in horticulture or demonstrated tree crop experience essential.
* Formal training in leadership preferred.
* Chemical Certificate.
* Experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel for managing budgets essential.
* Experience managing teams including employees, labour hire and contractors essential.
* Advanced experience and knowledge of land improvement techniques.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, organisation and time management skills and attention to detail.
* Safety training and macadamia experience will be highly regarded.
