Reporting to the Executive Director Operations & Resourcing, you will lead the Fare Compliance Unit with a clear mandate to strengthen customer experience while safeguarding fare revenue across all modes of transport within the Transport Cluster. Through a balanced approach that integrates customer service excellence with effective compliance activities, you will ensure fare compliance outcomes are achieved in a way that reflects professionalism, fairness, empathy, and respect for the diverse communities we serve.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will directly lead and provide oversight to frontline teams operating across the network each day. This is a highly visible, hands-on position requiring authentic, values-based leadership, strong collaboration, and the ability to build trust at every level of the organisation. You will champion a “safe to work, safe to speak” culture, fostering psychological safety, inclusion, and open dialogue so that every team member feels heard, respected, and empowered to contribute.

About You
You excel at building trusted relationships across agencies and bring demonstrated experience working collaboratively within Transport and alongside NSW Police to coordinate effective responses to fare evasion. Through strategic resource deployment, capability uplift and data-informed enforcement approaches, you deliver balanced, fair and proportionate compliance outcomes.
You lead the development and application of monitoring and evaluation tools that identify emerging risks and threats, proactively implementing mitigation and prevention strategies that strengthen operational performance.
A forward-thinking professional, you are committed to continuous improvement and stay informed of best practice approaches in fare compliance policy and operational delivery. You confidently provide subject matter expertise across ticketing, behavioural and parking compliance matters, offering sound advice that supports evidence-based decision making. You are comfortable delivering both regular and ad hoc performance reporting, translating complex operational data into clear insights that inform resource allocation and strategic direction.
Above all, you model visible safety leadership and execute your safety responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities in alignment with Sydney Trains’ Safety Management System requirements. You lead with authenticity, fairness and accountability, fostering a safe-to-work, safe-to-speak culture where diverse perspectives are valued and high performance is achieved through collaboration and respect.
