IPA have a long-standing history of providing staff to Queensland Government departments and are currently partnering with our client to recruit a Boat Ramp Survey Officer on the Gold Coast. Our client leads development of the policy framework to protect and conserve fisheries resources, while maintaining profitable commercial and enjoyable recreational fishing sectors.

We are looking for an avid fisher who easily identify different species and is happy to interview fellow fishing friends as they come in from their daily fishing trips. Must be able to use a tablet for data collection via an online platform.

**Your opportunity**:
You will be involved in collecting recreational fishing information at boat ramps in the Gold Coast region. This work involves interviewing recreational fishers at boat ramps when they return from fishing trips to collect information about the trip. Fish will need to be identified and measured to the nearest centimetre. Survey shifts at ramps last for four hours. Full training is provided together with offsite support from the survey coordinator via regular telephone conversations.

**Key duties and accountabilities**
- Engaging with recreational fishers at boat ramps to collect information about fishing trips
- Identify, count and measure a suite of more than 40 species of fish
- Follow interview protocols and record data accurately and clearly
- Communicate clearly and politely with recreational fishers
- Work well with others in the team

**Key capabilities**
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to the sampling protocol
- Record data clearly and accurately
- Reliable and punctual and maintain communication with offsite supervisors
- Able to handle some challenging questions from the general public
- Comfortable talking with the general public
- Able to safely climb onto boats
- Able to assess risk and be safe at a boat ramp
- Able to identify commonly caught recreational species and measure them quickly

**Mandatory requirement/special conditions**
- Punctual and reliable because of the independent nature of the work
- Able to identify commonly caught recreational species or the ability to rapidly acquire those skills
- Friendly, approachable personality
- Access to vehicle and current Queensland C-class driver's licence
- Mobile phone
- Ability to work 4 x 4 hours shifts / Month including a mix of weekend and weekday shifts
- Morning and Afternoon shifts available 9am-1pm or 12pm to 4pm.
- Must be available on Fridays
- Ability to work across multiple Gold Coast locations - Grand Hotel and Broadwater ramps

**Position functional requirements**
- Ability to climb into boats on trailers and lift fish up to 10kg
- Friendly persona
- Squatting / kneeling
- Exposed to the elements: sun, wind & rain
