The Metallurgist plays a pivotal role in overseeing the metallurgical processes involved in the production of high-purity sodium chloride (NaCl) salt and sulphate of potash (SOP) fertiliser. This role includes direct supervision of laboratory technicians and chemists, ensuring the efficient operation of the laboratory and the quality control of metallurgical processes.

We are rapidly progressing the Mardie Salt Operation and Potash Project (Mardie Operation), a tier 1 solar evaporation project that will supply high-purity industrial salt and sulphate of potash (SOP) for more than 60 years.

Mardie will be the largest salt operation in Australia and the third largest globally. With first salt on ship on track to be achieved late next year, BCI Minerals is just at the beginning of its journey to become a key player in a multitude of globally significant sustainable opportunities.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Metallurgist to Lead and manage the Laboratory Technicians and Chemists to ensure effective operations and accurate testing. This role is important to ensure process optimisation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement across our Mardie Salt Operation. In this role, you will oversee all testing, analysis, and laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards. Your expertise will be vital in supporting commissioning, start-up, and ramp-up activities, as well as in maintaining robust procedures for sampling, process control, equipment calibration, and data reporting. You will identify and implement improvements that enhance product quality and plant performance.

The Metallurgist will play a key role in building a high-performing, values-driven team. You will be able to set clear expectations, provide regular coaching, and foster a culture aligned with BCI's values. Your leadership will ensure that team members are competent, engaged, and continuously developing in line with operational needs. A strong focus on training, accountability, and performance will be essential to success in this role.

About You:

The successful candidate will hold:

* Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline
* Minimum of 7 years' experience in metallurgy or mineral processing, with at least 2 to 3 years in a supervisory or team leadership role demonstrating strong technical expertise and effective people management skills
* Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation, testing methods, and quality control systems
* Proficiency in process control and optimisation methodologies
* Experience in leading a team with a strong understanding of people management and the employee life cycle
* Knowledge of safety and environment management systems
* Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook & SharePoint)
* Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques including ICP-OES, AAS, titration, and wet chemistry (desirable)
* Understanding of environmental and safety regulations relevant to mining and mineral processing (desirable)
* Previous salt industry experience (desirable)

The successful candidate will be required to provide a national police clearance that is not older than 3 months and must hold a WA White Card.

You must have current unrestricted working rights for Australia to be eligible for consideration.
