Opportunity
We are seeking a practical, operations-focused Site Engineer to support daily landfill activities at two NSW Landfills.
This is a site-based engineering role, working closely with landfill operations, supervisors, and contractors to ensure waste placement, filling, and cover activities are delivered efficiently, safely, and in accordance with approved plans and licence conditions.
The role provides direct engineering input into weekly fill planning, field execution, and performance tracking, with a strong emphasis on supporting operations rather than purely analytical or design work.
Key Responsibilities
* Support day‐to‐day engineering activities for landfill operations, providing assistance to site teams as needed
* Assist with the preparation and rollout of the weekly fill plan, including lift progression, filling sequence, and equipment considerations
* Work alongside supervisors to help implement fill plans on site, making adjustments for changing conditions and updating machine GPS files (Carlson/Trimble)
* Carry out regular site inspections to check waste placement, compaction, cover application (including ADC), and general compliance requirements
* Help monitor key operational measures such as waste volumes, airspace use, compaction, and cover usage
* Collect and maintain operational data, using digital tools (Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate) to support reporting and record‐keeping
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, productivity, and environmental performance
Qualifications
You are a site-focused engineer with a strong interest in landfill operations who thrives in an operational environment and enjoys working closely with frontline teams. You take a practical, hands‐on approach and are comfortable spending time on active landfill, construction, or industrial sites to support safe and efficient day‐to‐day operations.
* A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related discipline
* Experience or demonstrated exposure to:
o Landfill operations, earthworks, or bulk material handling
o Working on active construction or industrial sites
o Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly and practically with operators, supervisors, and contractors
o Basic to intermediate experience using digital tools such as Power BI for performance tracking and reporting, Power Apps for operational data capture, and Power Automate for workflow automation
o An interest in operational technologies including GPS machine control, drones, or GIS
Benefits
* A competitive salary package that recognises your skills and experience
* Genuine autonomy and flexibility in your role, giving you the freedom to work independently and make a visible, meaningful impact
* The opportunity to join a dynamic and growing Australian company, working alongside a motivated and collaborative team
* A strong employee benefits program, including novated car leasing, salary sacrificing options, and discounts on private health insurance
* A highly supportive parental leave policy, with paid maternity leave available from day one of employment
Equal Opportunity
We are dedicated to improving employment outcomes and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We also welcome candidates of all ages, abilities, gender identities, experiences (including veterans), and cultural backgrounds.
