About The Role
Our City Strategy Team are seeking an Executive Building Surveyor where you will support our City Strategy and Council teams to deliver quality built form and resolve complex building, safety and regulatory matters.
Your Key Responsibilities will include but is not limited to:
* Lead and mentor a small technical team to deliver high‑quality, compliant and timely building, planning and development outcomes.
* Provide expert assessment and regulatory oversight across development applications, certification functions, subdivision certificates and building information certificates.
* Drive proactive building safety programs including fire safety, combustible cladding, pool safety and broader compliance initiatives.
* Offer specialist advice on building regulation, design quality, urban design, and development outcomes to internal teams, applicants and stakeholders.
* Represent Council professionally in stakeholder forums, community consultations and Land & Environment Court proceedings as an expert witness.
* Contribute to strategic planning documents such as LEPs, DCPs, planning proposals and place‑based plans to support high‑quality urban environments.
* Lead projects and manage consultants to deliver technical studies, reports and regulatory outcomes within time, budget and legislative requirements.
* Champion continuous improvement and organisational values by modelling leadership, innovation, ethical practice, WHS compliance and collaborative cross‑Council engagement.
To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have
* Accredited Building Surveyor with relevant tertiary qualifications, unrestricted A1 & E1 accreditation,
* Holds a valid WHS General Induction (White Card) and NSW Driver's Licence.
* Extensive expertise in building regulation and certification, including complex development assessments, PCA functions and statutory determinations.
* Strong capability in compliance and safety programs, particularly fire safety, combustible cladding, pool safety and proactive audit initiatives.
* Comprehensive knowledge of key legislation including the EP&A Act, LG Act, Certifiers Act, Design & Building Practitioners Act and the NCC.
* Proven ability to provide expert technical advice to panels, stakeholders and external authorities, including experience as an Expert Witness.
* Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to negotiate, mediate, influence and prepare high‑quality specialist reports.
* Demonstrated leadership and team‑development capability, fostering collaboration, process improvement and high professional standards.
* Strong organisational discipline and professional integrity, with commitment to WHS, EEO, cultural diversity and continuous learning.
* Willingness to complete a National Police History Check
* Willingness to complete a pre-employment health assessment
