Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking a motivated individual looking for an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Network Architect / Lead Network Planning Engineer to support innovative network solutions. The selected candidate will be working on multiple programs and initiatives for L3Harris as the primary contractor. As a Network Architect, supporting the management and implementation of network design and solutions. The selected candidate will collaborate with internal and external teams. Work independently on projects from start to finish, including developing network designs based upon user requirements, creating network diagrams using Visio, configuring network equipment, and full implementation follow-through and documentation of requirements. As a senior position, a network architect is responsible for designing computer networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Internet connections, intranets and other data communications systems.
1. Meeting with customer(s) and gathering requirements
2. Designing networks to meet customer needs (requirements)
3. Performing technical trades including technologies and equipment/vendor
4. Write technical responses in Proposal, Lab testing, and supporting proposal process
5. Ensure customer technical requirements are met by architecture
6. Contribute to budgeting for and understand the financial impact of technology decisions
7. Assess competitors and the types of technology they use
8. Develop and implement test plans
9. Develop project timelines for projects
10. Implement and tune network
11. When implementing a new solution, unexpected issues arise where the network architect will need to make small changes to ensure the network operates properly
12. Write functional requirements/specifications documents
13. Maintain knowledge of new technologies and know when and where they should and should not be used. Example: SD-WAN, network automation, and Network Virtualization Function (NFV) technologies
14. Guide the selection, implementation and deployment processes for new technology rollouts
15. Evaluate technologies and designs in relation to the critical infrastructure and service needs for external customers
16. Implement solutions that support customer visions and objectives
17. Participate in inter program initiatives and discussions to resolve technical challenges
18. Create and maintain documentation and training for engineering and NOC teams
19. Maintain operational excellence of network system and components to exceed customer expectations
20. Define and implement best practices for network and capacity management
21. Identify areas of opportunity for automation and network optimization
22. Routinely perform proof of concepts and service trials while documenting system integration
23. Perform network planning, modeling, and analysis
24. Ensure that network architecture design, implementation and management support customer security requirements
25. Travel as required to meet for requirement meetings and system integration planning
Qualifications:
26. Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or equivalent of a 4-year accredited degree in a technical discipline
27. 10+ years of network engineering experience with IP networks
28. Experience with proven leadership as a team leader, manager or technical expert. Recent experience leading a project in a large-scale environment
29. Experience looking at the big picture and what's needed over the next three to five years (strategic growth and planning)
30. Experience analyzing requirements to develop technological roadmaps that point to solutions and their frameworks, as well as performing network modeling, analysis, planning and budgeting
31. Experience designing efficient, cost-effective network infrastructures that meet the long-term goals of the customer, while also permitting the customer to meet its short-term goals and financial obligations
32. Experience designing computer networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Internet connections, intranets and other data communications systems for large, distributed communications systems
Preferred Additional Skills:
33. Experience in presenting strategies and solutions to senior managers and executives, and excellent communication skills are required
34. Experience interacting with and managing technology vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, F5
35. Experience implementing network design, testing and building an enterprise network
36. Experience pairing with Tier 1 Internet Service providers, troubleshooting routing within the Internet (experience with looking glass sites)
37. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to configure, implement and support IP network infrastructure
38. Experience configuring MPLS, ISIS, QoS, BGP, VPLS, AS prepending, route policies, and in-depth BGP troubleshooting and configuring (Route-leaking, BGP attributes (local preference and community's)) using Cisco XR code
39. Experience configuring and troubleshooting OSPF redistribution, costs, and route-maps using Cisco XE code
40. Experience with Cisco ASR903, ISR3, ASR99xx routers and Cisco Nexus switches.
41. Experience with Cisco's GetVPN
42. Experience doing network planning, recommending network upgrades based on network trends and network issues
43. In depth implementation and troubleshooting experience of IP networks and the ability to think critically in high pressure, confidential environments
44. Experience implementing and managing carrier grade network and network technologies such as Carrier Ethernet, MPLS and SDN technologies
45. Ability to obtain a security clearance
46. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
47. Experience with power point, giving presentations and mentoring less experienced engineers
48. CCNP, CCDE, or CCIE or other advanced certification(s), is preferred
49. Strong enterprise network troubleshooting (Multicast, Layer 2, Cisco IOS(s), IP routing [BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and EIGRP], HSRP and physical layer issues (Ethernet, Optical, TDM))
50. Strong skill set with Microsoft Office software applications
51. Experience with Network Automations tools
52. System engineering background to analyze and engineer functions
53. Programming skills to support automation frameworks (Ansible, Puppet, etc.), JSON and coding languages like Python and Perl
