As we undergo significant transformation and pursue major expansion projects, sound legal advice is crucial for ensuring robust governance, navigating complex regulatory landscapes, and protecting our interests.
The Opportunity — We are seeking a qualified and experienced Compliance Specialist to volunteer their expertise in supporting our Board and management. This is a crucial strategic role for someone with a strong understanding of legal principles, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for contributing to a community-focused heritage organisation. You will provide invaluable guidance on a range of legal matters, helping us operate within legal frameworks and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
* Provide legal advice and guidance on matters related to our operations, governance, contracts, and compliance.
* Assist in reviewing and drafting legal documents, agreements, and policies.
* Advise on compliance with relevant legislation, including corporate law, rail safety law, employment law, and not-for-profit regulations.
* Support the Board in understanding legal risks and developing mitigation strategies.
* Potentially assist with intellectual property, land use agreements, or other specific legal matters as they arise.
* Collaborate closely with the Board (especially the President and Secretary) and other functional leads.
* Adhere strictly to professional ethical standards and our confidentiality policies.
* Contribute to fostering a culture of sound governance and risk awareness.
