The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service (CHHHS) works in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, Senior Medical Officer and wider CHHHS program team to support the LGHS in provision of safe quality healthcare to Prisoner clients through exemplary clinical nursing standards of practice for the specialty of primary care including care of people with long-term conditions and/or emergency care.
About us:
Lotus Glen Health Service (LGHS) is a rapidly growing division within the CHHHS region, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners located at the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre (LGCC) and Lotus Glen Open Custody Farm. The Secure Centre has a capacity to house approximately 976 prisoners and the Open Custody Farm accommodate 124 prisoners. The main catchment area of the centre is North Queensland, with a disproportionately large representation from first nations communities. Nursing cover is provided 24/7 with nursing staff responsible for patient assessment, minor treatment and patient transfers.

About your role:
* Demonstrate knowledge and experience in working with First Nations people in a compassionate, respectful and culturally safe manner, with understanding of the broader context which contributes to overrepresentation of First Nations peoples in Lotus Glen Health Service (LGHS).
* Be accountable for the application of contemporary human resource management principles in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure that the facility working environment meets legislative standards and Queensland Health policy.
* Take a leadership role to coordinate quality improvement and evidence-based practice activities to ensure the provision of quality, cost-effective nursing services.
* Provide leadership to effectively plan, manage and evaluate health services to achieve organisational goals.
