* Position Title: Maternal Support Worker - Midwifery Team
* Duration: Part-time, 4 days a week - Fixed term until 30 June 2026
This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).
WHO ARE WE?
Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The MSW is responsible for supporting the social-emotional wellbeing and perinatal mental health of families during the perinatal period. The MSW will work closely with midwives to support engagement with pregnancy care and coordinate programs within DDHS clinical services. The MSW will support pregnant clients to access care at DDHS and ensure the family unit, including grandparents, has access to appropriate social-emotional wellbeing and mental health services.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
* Maintain regular contact with clients within the scope of practice identified by the Midwifery Team.
* Facilitate client referrals to specialist and other allied health services, both internal and external to DDHS, and act as the liaison person on behalf of clients and families.
* Provide health education messages, information, and advice to clients and families about healthy lifestyles and the importance of perinatal mental health.
* Participate in Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) mental health training funded by NT Health Perinatal Mental Health Project.
* Undertake assessments to identify client/family support needs, gaps in service delivery, and potential service enhancements, and report on these activities as necessary.
* Assist with planning, delivery, and evaluation of health programs and community activities.
* Participate in regular team meetings to record health program reports and gather client feedback on services provided.
* Assist with client follow-up and recalls as directed by the midwifery team.
SELECTION CRITERIA
* Ability to work within and maintain confidentiality guidelines and policies.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
* Ability to interact effectively with health professionals, including medical practitioners and allied health staff.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with skills in planning, managing, and prioritizing tasks within time and resource constraints.
* Proven computer skills, especially in client information systems like Communicare.
* Experience working in maternal health and with maternal and perinatal mental health qualifications.
* Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar complex environment.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
* Willingness to undergo a Police Check.
* Ability and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
* Current driver's license.
* Current CPR certificate or willingness to obtain one within 6 months of commencement.
* Full vaccination against COVID-19 or valid exemption documented on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
